Franco Vicariotto, Medicine Doctor (Ph.D.medicine), is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is now senior consultant of San PIO X Hospital of Milan. He has been deputy head of division of Ob/Gyn. of Niguarda Hospital of Milan for almost 20 years where he had conducted important researches in the field of Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is one of the founders and Vice-president of the scientific society Esidog Italia (European Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and the member of the National board of S.I.C. Alexander Sulakvelidze, Ph.D, is an Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, and Chief Scientist and Vice-President for Research & Development of Intralytix, Inc. Dr. Sulakvelidze is an internationally recognized expert in phage technology and infectious disease epidemiology. He has served/is serving as the Principal Investigator/Project Director of several grants and contracts from various agencies and foundations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), United States Department of Defense (DOD), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Food Processors Association (NFPA), Department of Health and Human Services Biotechnology Engagement Program (BTEP), and the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF). Sulakvelidze has published extensively on the subjects of molecular epidemiology and phage therapy, and he is the author of several issued and pending patents in the field of bacteriophages. He also co-edited a major book about bacteriophages, which was published by the CRC Press in 2005. Dr. Sulakvelidze serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Bacteriophage. His research has been featured in several magazines and newspapers (including the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Science, Smithsonian, Wired, and Discover Magazine), and in various radio programs and television documentaries (including National Public Radio’s Science Friday, BBC Radio and Voice of America radio programs, and BBC Horizon documentary about phage therapy). Dr. Sulakvelidze serves as an ad hoc reviewer for various journals, such as Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Drug Discovery Today, FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology, FEMS Microbiology Letters, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, Food Microbiology, Trends in Biotechnology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, and Therapeutic Delivery, and for several funding agencies, including the CRDF, the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), the Qatar Research Fund, the U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF), and the NIH.

Ascension Marcos got her PhD at the School of Pharmacy at the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain (UCM) in 1982 and Master in Clinical Analysis by UCM in 1986, and got a grant at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She was the Head of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology at the Mixed Center CSIC-UCM (1998-2002). She is the leader of the Immunonutrition Research Group at the Department of Metabolism and Nutrition at CSIC since 1987. She achieved the highest category at CSIC as a Research Professor in 2006 and her scientific consolidation has been recognized for 5 six-year terms since 1985. She is a pioneer in the field of Immunonutrition in Spain, Founder and President of the International Forum of Immunonutrition for Education and Research (i-FINER)since 2007. In 2014 the i-FINER group has developed the International Society for Immunonutrition (ISIN), she being also the President.

Dr. Iryna Sorokulova, Professor of Microbiology, Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, Auburn, AL, USA. She received her MS degree in Microbiology from Taras Shevchenko Kiev State University (Ukraine) and Ph.D. and D.Sc. Degrees in Microbiology from Institute of Microbiology and Virology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Dr. Sorokulova received professional training at Moscow State University (Russia), Bureau of Biologics (Ottawa, Canada), Massachusetts Biological Laboratories (Boston, MA, USA). She is the recipient of the Ukraine State Prize in Science and Technology. Dr. Sorokulova is the author of 76 refereed scientific publications, 4 books, and 23 patents (1- US, 1-France; 6-Ukraine, 15-Russia). Six patents are now licensed and commercialized. She created several biotechnological products; some of them are commercially available.

Stefan R Herbel is working as a GMP Compliance Manager in the Department of Microbiology at Bayer HealthCare in Grenzach-Wyhlen, Germany. His work includes monitoring and guiding the good manufacturing practice standards in producing ointments and ready-to-use injections. In 2010 he started working on his Ph.D. at the Institute of Microbiology and Epizootics at the Department of Veterinarian Medicine (Freie Universität Berlin). In his project he was establishing a rapid and reliable real-time PCR technique for species-specific identification and quantification of probiotics in dairy and non-dairy products such as pharmaceuticals, food samples and non-food articles. After studying Biology at the Freie Universität in Berlin he was working as a Second Head of the diagnostic laboratories at Biotecon Diagnostics GmbH in Potsdam, Germany. He is a peer reviewer for a numer of journals dealing with probiotics: African Journal of Microbiology Research, Berliner und Münchener tierärztliche Wochenschrift, British Journal of Nutrition, Folia Microbiologica, Journal of Microbiology Research & Reviews, Journal of Proteomics & Bioinformatics, PLoS ONE and SpringerPlus. At the moment, he is visiting professor at Sao Paulo University, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has published more than 90 papers in reputed journals and serving as a member of the editorial board. He is reviewer for more than 30 international journals.

Vivian Chi-Hua Wu is a Professor at School of Food and Agriculture, University of Maine, USA. Vivian Chi-Hua Wu received her Ph.D. from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, USA.

Dr. Vivian Chi-Hua Wu's areas of research are food safety, microbiology, development of biosensors and intervention technology, functional food, gut microbiota and health.

Dr. Lu Qi obtained a medical degree in China and PhD at Tufts University in the United States. He is now an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Qi’s major research interests have focused on genetic and nutritional epidemiology of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related cardiovascular diseases. His recent research topics also include epigenetics and metabolomics, and the complex interactions between genetic variations, omic events and lifestyle/diet factors in relation to metabolic disorder. He has extensive experience in leading epidemiology and genetic studies in large cohorts, randomized clinical trials, and international collaborations. He has been leading several projects funded by NIH and American Heart Association, and European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes.

Almagul Kushugulova obtained her MD degree in 1996 from Akmola State Medical Institute and was awarded a license for Physician of General Practice. In 2000 she received her PhD degree from Akmola State Medical Institute, and in 2010 she obtained a DMSc degree at the National Center for Biotechnology, Astana, Kazakhstan. Regarding her work experience, since 2001, Almagul Kushugulova directed the division of the Republican Collection of microorganisms for industrial use. In 2006, she was the head of the Laboratory of Genetics and Biochemistry of Microorganisms at the National Center for Biotechnology. She supervised 10 research projects on developing screening techniques for diagnosis of hereditary diseases, genetic methods of systematics of probiotic microorganisms, bacteriocins obtaining, development of dietary supplements and therapeutic and prophylactic drugs and onestablishing a collection of industrially important microorganisms. Under the direction of Almagul Kushugulova 6 faculty members successfully completed the scientific dissertations and received CBSc degrees. Since 2011, Almagul Kushugulova has been working at the Center for Life Sciences, Nazarbayev University as a Lead Researcher at the Department of Translational Medicine, Aging and Global Health.

Nditange Shigwedha is currently working as a Food Scientist at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in China. Just recently, he has successfully completed his postdoctorate thesis under Prof. Lanwei Zhang at the School of Food Science and Engineering, HIT, Harbin. From 2007 to 2014, he taught many courses in the field of Food Science and Technology at the University of Namibia. He also served as Head of Department (HOD) at the Department of Food Science & Technology between 2008 and 2012. Since 2000, he has done much research on probiotics and published more than 28 papers in reputable journals. At the present time, he is also collaborating with Dr. Liubov Sichel in a shared project on probiotics between Lytic Enzymes LLC and HIT.
